Poet’s Life: 2020 Vision

In my memoir His Guiding Hand I mention my habit of taking a snapshot in my mind’s eye to help me remember events. During this time of world change it would be easy to dwell on the past or even worry about the future and forget to live in the moment.

I am sure that there are very few people who if looking back over their life would say that they would not change anything about it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Looking forward for many will be especially difficult. We do not know what is ahead.

Now, more than at any time I think is important to focus on blessings and what I can do rather than what I can not.

Being home ‘distant socialising’ I am trying to make the most of the time available to write and to share my poetry. Yesterday I emailed a poetry pamphlet to 65 friends and asked each to let me know if they would like to receive others weekly via email during the next 3 months. I will be sending physical copies to friends and family too. This morning the first section of His Guiding Hand was launched as a Kindle. This afternoon I will be preparing a Kindle of my personal journal Poetry of the Sole, and later in the week I will be looking to launch another Kindle book. From next week I will be hosting Elevenses: Coffee with Kate a weekly poetry chat via Zoom.

It is my hope that someone will be aided by my poetry, even for a few moments perhaps be lost in an image conjured up by a verse.

I do not know what the future holds long term, but for now I will do what I can in the ways that I can.

As Rev John Wesley put it...

Do all the good you can,

By all the means you can,

In all the ways you can,

In all the places you can,

At all the times you can,

To all the people you can,

As long as ever you can.

I hope that my mind’s eye snapshots in coming months will be of the good that I have done, and have seen in my community, county, country, and globally. We are in a time of world change. Who’s to say the world will be worse than before, perhaps it will be all the better as we become the people we are meant to be – loving, caring, selfless, compassionate…..

We can all make a real difference

In the world in which we live

We can choose to be hard hearted

Or with compassion others forgive.

We have a choice set before us

Which way we would like to be

We may not know the future

But we can influence our destiny.

I pray that you will keep safe and well and that you will be mindful of blessings amidst the concerns and sadness we all share in.
